Europe and Ukraine must participate in the peace process on equal terms with Russia and the United States. Moscow and Washington cannot solely determine the conditions for peace, states China’s special envoy for European affairs, Lu Shaye, according to SCMP.

According to the Chinese diplomat, he is "appalled" by how US President Donald Trump treats his allies in Europe.

"When you look at how the Trump administration has implemented a brazen and domineering policy towards Europe, treating its allies in this way, honestly, from a European perspective, it’s quite appalling," Lu Shaye added.

In his view, European countries "should reflect" and compare Trump's policies with those of China, as "China’s diplomatic approach emphasises peace, friendship, goodwill and win-win cooperation."

He welcomed discussions between the US and Russia aimed at resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine but stressed that any peace process must recognize and include all interested parties, including European states.

"Various proposed solutions should be subject to equal discussion, rather than being dictated by a select few," the diplomat emphasized.

Controversial diplomat

Earlier, Lu Shaye made a scandalous statement about Ukraine’s sovereignty, claiming that former Soviet republics "have no status in international law."

Later, the Chinese embassy in France stated that this was merely Lu Shaye’s personal opinion and that Beijing does not support his remarks.
