China slams Ukrainian sanctions on Chinese companies over Russia ties

Beijing expressed outrage at Ukrainian sanctions on Chinese companies over cooperation with Russia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said.
In particular, Beijing called on the Ukrainian side to "correct its mistake" and "undo the negative effect." According to the spokesperson, China opposes unilateral sanctions that "have no basis in international law or authorization of the UN Security Council."
He also emphasized that China "will firmly safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies."
Yesterday, Ukraine introduced new sanctions against critical Russian resources — targeting 95 companies and individuals working for the enemy's military-industrial complex. Among them are 53 individuals and legal entities from China and other countries.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also imposed sanctions on five companies registered in China.
As previously reported by Vladyslav Vasyuk, the Ukrainian president's commissioner for sanctions policy, in an interview with Reuters, about 60% of foreign components found in Russian weapons originate from China.
It was also reported that due to China's close ties with Russia, which is waging war against Ukraine, the European Union imposed sanctions on two Chinese banks and five companies.
China's Ministry of Commerce has already stated that such actions seriously harm trade, economic, and financial relations and emphasized that Beijing will take necessary measures to protect the "legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and financial institutions."
