Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China and the United States hope the war in Ukraine ends as soon as possible. Both sides are ready to play a constructive role in the matter, Xinhua news agency reports.

"Regarding the Ukraine crisis, both China and the United States hope for the conflict to be resolved as soon as possible and have made significant efforts to promote peace talks, each in its own way," Wang Yi said.

He noted that complex issues do not have simple solutions, which is why peace negotiations cannot produce an immediate resolution. At the same time, both countries are ready to help.

"Both China and the United States are willing to maintain dialogue and play a constructive role in the political settlement of the conflict," Wang Yi concluded.

Notably, the Chinese foreign minister made the statement after a meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Beijing on May 14.

Efforts to end war in Ukraine

Recently, Donald Trump also confirmed that he discussed the war in Ukraine with Xi Jinping. He stressed that both sides want to see the conflict resolved and are interested in finding ways to achieve that goal.

Earlier this month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also stated that the country supports all efforts to end hostilities and create conditions for a "political settlement of the crisis."

Meanwhile, on May 16, Ukrainian Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov said he is convinced that the peace process between Ukraine and Russia will ultimately end the war.
