Russian President Vladimir Putin has still failed to reach any agreements on the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline during his visit to China. Beijing continues to keep Moscow in a dependent and weak position, according to a post by Andriy Kovalenko.

According to Kovalenko, the lack of agreements on the Power of Siberia-2 pipeline demonstrates China’s real attitude toward Russia.

"Beijing continues to view the Russian Federation as a 'raw materials appendage' that should remain in a weak position in order to obtain cheap energy resources," Kovalenko writes.

In addition, the expert notes that for China, Russia remains a toxic partner due to international isolation and sanctions pressure.

"Building anything new with Russia right now is risky for China," Kovalenko emphasized.

'Friendship' between Putin and Xi is being tested

Putin’s visit to China once again drew attention to the long-standing relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Over the years, they have repeatedly demonstrated close political ties, held personal meetings, and issued joint statements on a "strategic partnership."

However, the current negotiations are taking place in a different geopolitical context — namely, against the backdrop of Russia’s war against Ukraine, sanctions, and Moscow’s growing economic dependence on Beijing.

Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin signed a declaration on a "multipolar world order."

Earlier, it was also reported that US President Donald Trump commented on the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
