Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging its citizens to leave Iran due to security threats, recommending exit routes through Armenia or Türkiye, according to Canada’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry issued an emergency advisory for Canadians currently in Iran, urging them to leave the country as quickly as possible.
Diplomats cited the worsening political and security situation in Iran, amid widespread protests and potential violence against foreigners, as the reason for the urgent call. The Foreign Ministry stressed that citizens should immediately review their plans in the country and arrange a safe departure.
Officials recommended leaving via neighboring countries, Armenia or Türkiye, since direct flights may be limited or unsafe.
"Canadians in Iran should leave now if safe to do so. Overland crossings are available via Armenia or Türkiye," the Foreign Ministry said.
Canadian diplomats emphasized that the government continues to monitor the situation and will provide security updates for citizens remaining in Iran.
Protests in Iran
It has been reported that up to 12,000 people may have died in large-scale anti-government protests that have been ongoing for 16 days.
Those detained during the protests face the threat of imminent execution.
Meanwhile, despite the widespread crackdown, US President Donald Trump publicly called on Iranians to continue anti-government demonstrations, seize institutions, and stated that assistance for protesters is already on the way.
