US President Donald Trump publicly called on Iranians to continue anti-government protests, seize institutions, and said that aid for protesters is already on the way, according to Trump's post on Truth Social.
In his post, the US President explicitly encouraged Iranians to keep up the anti-government demonstrations.
"Iranian patriots, keep protesting - take over your institutions!!! ... Help is on its way," Trump wrote.
He did not specify what kind of aid he was referring to or in what form it might be provided.
Trump also announced that he had canceled all planned meetings with Iranian officials until the "senseless killings" of protesters stop.
The demonstrations in Iran are taking place amid a sharp decline in the national currency and economic instability. Protests have included clashes with police, car burnings, and widespread unrest in major cities, including Tehran.
Situation in Iran
According to the latest reports, the situation in Iran remains highly tense due to large-scale anti-government protests spreading across nearly the entire country.
Mass protests began on December 28 after the national currency, the Iranian rial, fell to a historic low, triggering rapid price increases and widespread social discontent.
The demonstrations have grown from local economic actions into a nationwide movement against the government, involving students, workers, merchants, and other groups. Protests are taking place in dozens of cities and include demands for political changes alongside socio-economic demands.
Following early reports of casualties, Trump said that Iran is beginning to cross the red line. According to Axios, he is considering strikes against the country to punish the regime for the killings.
