Canada will provide Ukraine with $1 billion worth of weapons. The package will include drones, shells, and armored vehicles, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says in Kyiv.

He says that at the G7 summit in June, Canada had pledged an additional $2 billion in military aid, and added that he was proud to announce that more than $1 billion of that amount would be used to strengthen their arsenal of weapons by supplying drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles, which would arrive the following month

The Canadian Prime Minister also said that the country would provide tens of millions in emergency aid, the creation of bomb shelters, and countering cyberattacks.

Carney adds that as co-chair of the international coalition for the return of Ukrainian children, Canada would strengthen its cooperation with Ukraine, European partners, and the United States to ensure the immediate and unconditional return of children.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Ukraine on Independence Day, August 24. This is his first visit to Kyiv as head of the Canadian government.

Canada's assistance

Canada supported Ukraine at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. The country provided financial, military, and humanitarian assistance. Canada is a member of the Ramstein Format Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine.

Earlier, Canada announced that it would allocate $15 million to repair Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks in Poland.

In June, Canada also sent Ukraine $1.7 billion from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
