US President Donald Trump said he has no deadline for Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin regarding the end of the war in Ukraine, according to the White House broadcast.
During a conversation with the press, Trump was asked whether he wanted to set a deadline for Putin to agree to the US peace plan. He responded:
"I have a deadline when the war is over, and hopefully the war is going to be over," the US president said.
He also claimed that some twenty-seven thousand people had allegedly been killed over the past three to four weeks, adding that the war must stop.
Trump commented as well on the US–Ukraine talks on the peace plan that took place in Florida on 30 November.
"Well, they're going along, and they're going along well. We want to stop people from being killed," he explained.
According to the US leader, there is a good chance that an agreement can be reached.
US-Ukraine talks
On Sunday, 30 November, Ukrainian and American delegations met in Florida to continue working on the US peace plan.
Media reports stated that the United States aimed to resolve disagreements on two key points of the document: territory and security guarantees. Outlets also reported that the timing of elections was discussed.
Before the meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed the press, saying the goal of the peace plan is not only to end the war but to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty.
After the talks, he emphasized that peace also requires the involvement of the other side, Russia, and added that the United States wants Ukraine’s recovery and is preparing for the country’s long-term prosperity.
The secretary of the national security and defense council, Rustem Umerov, who led the Ukrainian delegation, also commented on the results, stating that there is significant progress toward achieving a just peace.
