Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov said he briefed the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on the outcome of talks in the United States. According to him, the meeting on peace achieved significant progress, citing the minister’s statement.
"We have made significant progress toward achieving a just peace and aligning our positions with the American side," Umerov wrote.
He noted that Ukraine’s key objectives, security, sovereignty, and a reliable peace, remain unchanged and are fully supported by the United States.
"Next comes continued consultations and work on agreeing a joint framework decision," the secretary of the national security and defense council added.
US-Ukraine talks
On 29 November, the Ukrainian delegation traveled to the United States to continue refining the peace plan proposed by Washington. Negotiations began today, 30 November.
Media reports indicated that during the meeting, the United States aimed to resolve disagreements with Ukraine over two key points of the peace plan: the issue of territory and security guarantees.
Additionally, outlets reported that the timeline for elections was also discussed.
Before the talks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the purpose of the peace plan is not only to end the war but also to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Following the meeting, Rubio stated that the United States seeks Ukraine’s recovery and is preparing not just for a halt in hostilities but for long-term prosperity.
