There are no grounds to believe that Poland could use its veto power to block Ukraine's European integration, states by Sergiy Kyslytsya, First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in a comment to journalists.
In particular, he answered whether he believes that Poland may use its veto power.
"I have no reason to believe that Polish diplomats and government officials sitting in Brussels or elsewhere do not understand how important it is, and even how beneficial it is for them, for the clusters to be opened," Kyslytsya said.
The First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office also emphasized that Ukraine has done everything necessary for the clusters to be opened.
"As the president (of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy - ed.) said, when it comes to integration into the EU and the opening of clusters, as he stated at a press conference in Dublin, one should be guided not by emotions, but by the rules that exist in the European Union," he noted.
What preceded this
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz recently stated that Warsaw would not agree to Ukraine's accession to the EU if Kyiv continued to honor a number of historical figures.
In particular, he stressed that "Ukraine will not enter the European Union with Bandera (Ukrainian politician, one of the ideologists and theorists of the Ukrainian nationalist movement of the 20th century - ed.)." In addition, Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that no one would tell Poland "how to vote on the accession of one country or another" to the EU.
According to the Polish minister, every country on the path to joining the EU "must comply with strict requirements, including regarding the issue of historical memory."
On June 15, the European Union officially opened the first negotiating cluster, Fundamentals, for Ukraine as part of the European integration process.
