Bundestag calls for Fuchs APCs and additional Leopard 2 tanks transfer to Ukraine
Germany should provide Ukraine with more Leopard 2 tanks and transfer Fuchs armored personnel carriers amid the successful actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Russia's Kursk region, according to the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marcus Faber.
He noted that the advancement of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk direction is "impressive."
"Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin) cannot protect Russia. Ukraine's success should be grounds for discussing further releases of Leopard 2 and Fuchs," wrote the head of the German Defense Committee.
He also mentioned that Germany has provided 5% of its Leopard 2 tanks but has not transferred any Fuchs armored personnel carriers.
Faber also mentioned an order for 123 Leopard 2 tanks and noted that the German side is considering a decision on the Fuchs vehicles.
He believes German aid to Ukraine is "crucial in the fight against Putin's aggressive war."
According to Faber, the successful operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region demonstrates a "failure in the Kremlin" and a "military rout."
"With military support for Ukraine, we can now lay the foundation for lasting peace in Europe," he wrote.
Background
In June last year, the defense company Rheinmetall stated that Ukraine could receive refurbished TPz 1 Fuchs armored personnel carriers from Germany's industrial reserves.
Earlier, in April 2023, a representative of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Germany had only transferred 6% of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine but had not provided any Fuchs or Wiesel armored vehicles. According to him, these are necessary for an offensive.
Additionally, on August 11, in response to the Ukrainian army's operation, the head of the Bundestag Committee, Marcus Faber, stated that the Kursk breakthrough lays the groundwork for negotiations with Putin's successor.
Moreover, Germany's Ministry of Defense recently announced that Ukraine is permitted to use the provided weapons on "its options."
