Germany authorizes Ukraine to use weapons at its discretion
The weapons transferred by Germany automatically become the property of Ukraine and can be used by it as the Ukrainian troops consider necessary and correct, according to German Defense Ministry spokesman Arno Kollatz.
Kollatz noted that the German Defense Ministry does not question the legality of actions in the Kursk region.
According to him, international law provides for the possibility of conducting military operations on the territory of the aggressor country to defend its own state. Therefore, it does not involve any special conditions for the use of weapons provided by Germany.
"Once the weapons from Germany have been transferred to Ukraine, they already belong to Ukraine, they are Ukrainian weapons. There are no obstacles, so Ukraine is free to choose its options," said Kollatz.
He added that Ukraine is obliged to adhere to international law.
At the same time, Kollatz clarified that the use of long-range weapons is a different, political issue, but this is not the case here.
Germany's position on Ukraine's strikes on Russian territory
Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine can defend itself not only on its own territory in the war with Russia. This is provided for by international law.
"Ukraine has the right to self-defense enshrined in international law. This is not limited to its own territory," the German Foreign Ministry said in response to Politico's request for comment on the situation in the Kursk region.
