Acting Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Dimitar Glavchev, has addressed the National Assembly of his country. He is asking them to approve the signing of a security cooperation agreement between Bulgaria and Ukraine, according to the Bulgarian government website.

It is noted that the agreement with Ukraine is not subject to the Vienna Convention on the Law of International Treaties. It stipulates political obligations following decisions previously made by the National Assembly.

Glavchev himself emphasized that the interim government has limited powers due to its temporary nature. He added that the security agreement aligns with the political commitments previously approved by the National Assembly. Currently, Bulgaria is one of six EU member states that have not yet signed a security agreement with Ukraine.

The other countries on the list include Austria, Cyprus, Malta, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Aid to Ukraine from Bulgaria

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bulgaria has provided various forms of aid, including defense-related assistance.

On February 28, 2024, Bulgaria announced a new military aid package to Ukraine, which included armored personnel carriers (APCs). By March, Bulgaria had sent the first 30 railcars with APCs to Ukraine.

The latest aid package from Bulgaria to Ukraine was allocated on December 4, which included weapons, equipment, and ammunition.
