Britain to persuade Germany to sell 40 Typhoon fighter jets to Türkiye
The United Kingdom will help Turkiye convince Germany to sell 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, according to the TRT Haber.
The newspaper's sources note that Ankara's purchase of Eurofighter jets was discussed during a meeting between Turkish National Defense Minister Yashar Guler and his British counterpart.
According to them, the British assured the head of the eastern country's Defense Ministry that they would help convince the Germans to sell the aircraft. Türkiye intends to purchase 40 Typhoon fighters of the latest version - 20 in the first phase and 20 more later.
Earlier, Gular reported that Türkiye is resolving the issue of purchasing Eurofighter Typhoons through England.
The ministry also noted that these Typhoons are the only aircraft Istanbul is focusing on as the process of procurement and modernization of the F16 continues.
Türkiye's attempts to buy Typhoon
On November 16, Bloomberg reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will likely block Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's request to buy Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets due to diplomatic tensions between NATO allies.
The tensions are said to have arisen over Istanbul's purchase of air defense systems from Russia, its military campaign against Kurdish forces in Syria, and the delay in ratifying Sweden's NATO membership.
Subsequently, the Turkish Defense Minister announced an attempt to negotiate the purchase of fighter jets from Germany through Spain and the United Kingdom.
