Biden orders Pentagon to continue increasing arms supplies to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden reacted to Russia's overnight aerial attacks against Ukraine. He instructed the Pentagon to continue increasing arms supplies to the country, according to the White House.
In a statement, it was said that in the early hours of Christmas, Russia launched waves of missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. Russia aimed to deprive Ukrainians of access to heat and electricity during the winter months.
"Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety, and the United States and the international community must continue to stand with Ukraine until it triumphs over Russia’s aggression," Biden’s statement reads.
He also noted that in recent months, the US has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles, with more on the way. Additionally, he instructed the US Department of Defense to ramp up weapon supplies.
"I have directed the Department of Defense to continue its surge of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces," the US president concluded.
Notably, the team of newly elected US President Donald Trump also responded to Russia's missile strike on Christmas. Specifically, a future special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that this attack was brutal.
"Christmas should be a time of peace, yet Ukraine was brutally attacked on Christmas Day. Launching large-scale missile and drone attacks on the day of the Lord’s birth is wrong," Kellogg wrote on the social media platform X.
We also reported that, according to Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, Russia's strike on Ukraine on Christmas proves that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not seek peace. On the contrary, he is determined to destroy Ukraine.
