Russia's massive shelling of Ukraine on Christmas is a brutal attack. The US wants peace to prevail in the region, states Keith Kellogg, whom the elected US president nominated for the position of Special envoy for Ukraine.

"Christmas should be a time of peace, yet Ukraine was brutally attacked on Christmas Day. Launching large-scale missile and drone attacks on the day of the Lord’s birth is wrong," Kellogg emphasized.

He added that the whole world is closely watching the actions of Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the US is firmly committed to establishing peace in the region.

Reaction of Yermak

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Yermak thanked Kellogg for his honest, human position.

"Russia's shelling of civilian infrastructure on Christmas is especially cynical. However, over the years of this war, Russia has proven that the killing of civilians and children is the favorite activity of Putin's regime (Russian President Vladimir Putin - ed.) and the commanders of his army. The world should not be like this," Yermak added.

Russian strike

On the night of December 25, Russian forces launched 78 missiles at Ukraine. Specifically, the enemy used 50 cruise missiles, Kh-101/Kh-55, which were launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers.

Additionally, the Russian army attempted to attack Ukraine using 106 strike drones.

Overall, Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down 59 missiles and 54 strike drones. Another 52 drones failed to reach their targets and were lost due to location-based issues.

As noted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russian President Vladimir Putin deliberately chose Christmas for the attack.
