President Joe Biden pledges to continue airstrikes against the Houthi rebels if they persist in attacks in the Red Sea, according to Bloomberg journalist Jennifer Jacobs' post on X.

"Air strikes will continue against the Houthis, Biden tells us (during a conversation with journalists - ed.), if they don’t stop attacks on Red Sea shipping," Jacobs reported.

Background

Since November 2023, Yemeni Houthi rebels have periodically attacked merchant ships in the Red Sea using drones, as well as ballistic or cruise missiles. The initial attacks occurred after the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

On January 12, in response, the United States and Britain launched missile strikes on targets in Yemen associated with the Houthis. Explosions were reported across the country. However, the Houthis continued to target ships near the Yemeni coast.

On January 17, the United States designated the Houthis as a global terrorist organization, and the next day, they carried out additional strikes against their targets.
