Varicose veins can be harmless, but they can also cause certain problems for the person who suffers from them. Experts have named a method to get rid of the discomfort from this condition, reports Marca.

What are varicose veins?

These are swollen and twisted veins located directly under the skin. Most often, they are found mainly on the legs. Varicose veins occur due to damage or weakness in the veins. The reasons for this can be different, for example, age, pregnancy, excess weight or obesity, prolonged sitting, or a sedentary lifestyle.

Ideal remedy for varicose veins

In the search for treatments for varicose veins, one remedy stands out – cypress oil. According to various specialists, cypress oil is especially useful for this condition due to its properties that reduce swelling and improve blood circulation.

To prepare a solution that may improve this condition, experts recommend mixing five drops of this essential oil with one tablespoon of any other oil.

In a clean container, mix until a solution is obtained. After preparation, it should be applied with gentle massaging movements upwards, from the feet to the thighs. In this way, the natural direction of circulation is ensured, which promotes venous return. This oil can become a great ally not only for varicose veins, but also for relieving the feeling of fatigue and heaviness in the legs. In addition, it has a toning and restorative effect, which helps reduce swelling and prevent such circulatory problems as varicose veins, cramps, or edema.

Other recommendations for prevention of varicose veins

Although cypress or lavender oil can be a good method for addressing the problem of varicose veins, some treatments can help prevent it.

One of the main ones is physical exercise. Regular walking, swimming, and other exercises that get your legs moving are necessary for improving blood circulation. In addition, it is important to elevate your legs while sleeping or at times before or after exercising to promote circulation in this area.

On the other hand, according to experts from the Mayo Clinic, the use of compression stockings can help reduce swelling and leg pain, although it is important that their use is recommended by a specialist. It is also important to remember not to stand for too long, and if your job requires it, try to take breaks, walk, and move your legs.

Diet is also one of the key factors, and this applies especially to salt. Salt can increase fluid retention, so a low-salt diet can help reduce swelling. Coffee and tobacco can contribute to worsening varicose veins, so limiting or avoiding them may be optimal if you have risk factors.
