Assessing threats for Kupiansk and Russians' prospects by year's end: Expert insights
Currently, there are no new threats to Kupiansk from Russian troops. The invaders hardly have any special "prospects" in this direction until the end of the year. This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine article "Avdiivka situation and springboards in Kherson region, frontline overview".
Last week, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskii, announced the strengthening of defenses and the use of reserves in the Kupiansk direction, as the Russians are trying to find a weak point in the defense of Ukrainian troops. The hottest spot is the Synkivka village district.
At the same time, military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko does not see any new threats for Kupiansk. According to him, the Russians have been wanting to occupy Synkivka since the summer, having obtained a bridgehead to Kupiansk, but without success. Now they are forced to use forces from the Lyman direction near Avdiivka.
"The Russian troop group "Center" will be weakened and will not be able to press as hard as last summer. This will allow us to redistribute resources, for example, more to Kupiansk, in order to strengthen the defense if necessary. In the Kupiansk direction, which is responsible for the "West" troop group will, of course, try to break through our borders, but I don't see any special prospects until the end of the year," the expert notes.
Russian offensive attempts
At the beginning of October, the Russians intensified their attacks in the Avdiivka area. The Russians are actively shelling the city and neighboring settlements. According to the Ukrainian military, the occupiers are trying to surround Avdiivka, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding the defense.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that when the occupiers stepped up near Avdiivka, Russia lost at least 10,000 soldiers in that direction.
Also, the invaders resumed assaults in the Lyman-Kupiansk direction. The Russians are trying to reach the Oskil River. Fierce fighting continues on this line.
In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently reported that the Russian invaders are looking for a "weakness in the defense" of the Ukrainian troops near Kupiansk. The Russians want to retake the city.
