US Vice President JD Vance stated that the United States will continue the war with Iran for "a little while longer" to neutralize the country for a "very, very long time."
"The president's going to keep at it for a little while longer to ensure that once we leave, we don't have to do this again for a very, very long time," Vance said on the Benny Show podcast, acknowledging that US military successes will not be permanent.
He added that Iran continues to threaten the United States by all means and is still attempting to develop nuclear weapons.
"We need to neuter them for a very, very long time, and that's the purpose," the US vice president said.
Vance also acknowledged rising gas prices but emphasized that they are a short-term issue and that prices are expected to fall soon.
"We're not interested in being in Iran a year down the road or two years down the road. We're taking care of business. We're going to be out of there soon, and gas prices are going to come back down," he concluded.
Middle East war
According to WSJ, President Donald Trump recently told his aides that he wants to avoid a prolonged war with Iran and hopes to end the conflict in the coming weeks.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at a G7 foreign ministers' meeting that the war with Iran will last another 2–4 weeks.
Meanwhile, the United States has deployed an amphibious assault ship and several thousand Marines to the Middle East. WSJ also reported that the Pentagon is considering sending up to 10,000 additional troops to the region.
In addition, the media reported that the United States is considering seizing Kharg Island. However, Bloomberg notes that the Trump administration currently has no plans for a ground invasion of Iran, focusing instead on strategic pressure without deploying infantry.
