On March 27, US Marines arrived in the Middle East aboard an amphibious assault ship carrying thousands of troops, US Central Command reports.
"U.S. Sailors and Marines aboard USS Tripoli (LHA 7) arrived in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, March 27," the post states.
The command noted that this America-class ship serves as the flagship for the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
The vessel carries approximately 3,500 sailors and Marines and is equipped with transport and strike aircraft, as well as amphibious and tactical assets.

Middle East war
On March 27, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that, despite hopes for a quick resolution, fighting between the United States and Iran is expected to continue for at least another 2–4 weeks.
Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon is considering sending an additional 10,000 troops to the Middle East to expand US military options for President Donald Trump.
However, according to Bloomberg, the Trump administration currently has no plans for a ground invasion of Iran. Despite the troop deployments, the United States is focusing on strategic pressure without committing infantry forces.
