At least 303 US service members have been wounded during the nearly month-long war with Iran. Most of the injuries are traumatic brain injuries caused by explosions from Iranian drones and other munitions, according to ABC News.
Number of wounded and their condition
According to a US official, of the 303 service members injured:
- 273 have returned to duty;
- 10 sustained severe injuries.
In addition to the wounded, US losses include 13 service members killed.
Main cause: Еraumatic brain injuries
The vast majority of injuries are traumatic brain injuries (TBI) caused by blast waves from explosions. Such injuries can lead to:
- Memory problems;
- Migraines;
- Chronic fatigue;
- Cognitive impairments.
Military officials note that the main threat comes from Iranian kamikaze drones and other explosive munitions targeting US positions.
Frontline situation
The war between the US and Iran began in late February following a series of strikes on American bases in the region. Despite President Donald Trump’s claims that the US has "already won the war," fighting continues. Iran continues to target coalition positions with drones and missiles, while Washington responds with strikes on Iranian sites, including on Kharg Island.
According to Reuters, US forces have destroyed only one-third of Iran’s missile stockpile since the start of the operation.
There are also reports that Chinese ships were suddenly blocked from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which may indicate a deepening regional crisis and possible tensions between Tehran and Beijing.
