How a dolls' house looks
Queen Mary's dolls' house was created between 1921 and 1924. It involved the efforts of 1,500 of the best artists, craftsmen, and manufacturers of that time. Its scale is 1:12. It is equipped with a functioning wine cellar, tiny royal jewels with real diamonds and rubies, and a piano with functional keys.
The Edwardian residence model also features electricity, working elevators, and running water. Additionally, it includes a library stocked with miniature books, specially written by authors, including Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Objects from the miniature house and servants' quarters include a vacuum cleaner, which in the 1920s was a relatively new device.
There is also a sewing machine for the servants, equipped with threads and miniature scissors that can cut. The room niches are filled with miniature plants and flowers. Additionally, there is a small garden area.

The Queen Mary's dolls' house has been a constant source of fascination for visitors to Windsor Castle, both adults and children alike. "We are delighted to showcase the miniature treasures of the dolls' house to a wider audience in this jubilee year," said Catherine Jones, curator of the special exhibition.
For the first time, the dolls' house has been captured from the perspective of an inhabitant, allowing viewers to explore the rooms, including the queen's bedroom, library, kitchen, and children's room, in exquisite detail.
