The US may fail to achieve the objectives of its operation against the Iranian regime. For now, Tehran has the capacity to defend itself, states Oleksandr Khara, Director of the Center for Defense Strategies, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine
According to the expert, it is still unclear whether the US operation against Iran will be a success for Washington.
"But for now, it seems they will not achieve their objectives. First, because the regime has held… It still has capabilities, meaning missiles, drones, and so on. We have not seen an organized uprising that could change the regime," Khara pointed out.
He added that the Americans are currently trying to organize a civil war of the Kurds against the Iranians. Whether the US will succeed is an open question. It should be taken into account that the Kurds mostly only have small arms; they do not have heavy equipment, aviation, or missiles.
Khara also noted that ethnic minorities live on the outskirts of Iran — Azerbaijanis, Kurds, Arabs, and others. Theoretically, they could secede from the country.
"But this will not change the situation in Tehran itself or lead to a change of power," the expert clarified.
US and Israeli operation against Iran
The US-Israeli operation against Iran began at the end of February. Unlike the case with Venezuela, where the Americans were able to change the regime rapidly, hostilities with Iran have been ongoing for several weeks.
US President Donald Trump assured that the operation against Iran was planned to be completed in four weeks.
A few days ago, the American leader said the war was "close to ending." But today, March 13, media outlets reported that the US is deploying additional forces to the Middle East.
