During the counteroffensive, Ukrainian defenders managed to retake 400 square kilometers of territory from Russian forces. Meanwhile, the enemy circulated a new claim about "capturing" the village of Ternuvate, the spokesperson of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, stated in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Ukrainian counteroffensive and territory liberation

Voloshyn noted that the counteroffensive operation by Ukrainian defenders is ongoing. Assault actions are focused on the administrative border between the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

He recalled the words of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, who said that Ukrainian troops have already managed to liberate about 400 square kilometers of territory.

"Eight settlements have been fully returned under our control," he said.

Fake claim about Ternuvate

According to the spokesperson of the Southern Defense Forces, Russian propaganda is spreading a claim about the alleged capture of the village of Ternuvate (near Huliaipole).

"That’s not true, because it was never under Russian control and remains under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. It is located deep within our defensive lines, about 10–15 kilometers from the so-called front line," Voloshyn emphasized.

He added that about two weeks ago, an enemy infiltration group entered the village to film propaganda videos, but it was destroyed. The Defense Forces are completing the clearing operation, as some of the invaders may have survived.

The enemy deliberately spreads such fakes ahead of the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Intensification of enemy strikes

The spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces added that, following improved weather conditions, an increase in enemy air attacks has been recorded:

  • 550 Shahed drones over the past week;

  • nearly 1,700 FPV drones and kamikaze drones per day;

  • 366 reconnaissance drones per day;

  • 131 Lancet and Bliskavka UAVs per day;

  • 71 guided aerial bombs per day;

  • 65 unguided air-launched rockets per day;

  • 14 Iskander ballistic missiles over the past week;

  • 10 air-launched cruise missiles over the past week;

  • 2 Kh-31P cruise missiles over the past week.

On February 20 alone, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian defenders had liberated 300 square kilometers of territory from occupying forces.
