The US is proposing a new approach to Europe's security architecture. However, it could pose risks to both Europe and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with CNN journalist Jake Tapper.

Trump's idea poses a danger

Zelenskyy clarified that he does not yet have all the details of Trump's proposed new security system for Europe. However, the president warned that a potential agreement between Russia and Europe could be dangerous.

"We didn't see yet any kind of demonstration and signals from Russian side that they are ready to do something. This is, I think this is, that's why it's dangerous. When they don't want to speak about how to end this war. I mean, Russia wants to begin with a new security infrastructure in Europe. It's dangerous," he said.

He said that although Ukraine is not a member of the EU or NATO, such security proposals pose risks to everyone.

"We all live in Europe. We don't want to have Yalta, Yalta 2. Yes, we are not ready for such a format. We don't want to be divided by Russia," the president said.

Zelenskyy believes that sovereignty and territorial integrity are priorities for any independent state.

"If you want to be a free, democratic country, you need that minimum: your neighbors will respect your sovereignty and territorial integrity," he added.

Trump's proposal

Trump previously stated that a major agreement could be reached as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Moreover, it would not be limited to Ukraine but would extend beyond it.

His remarks about a possible agreement soon came after he met with Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev on November 5.

In addition, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff recently announced that trilateral talks between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the US, would take place in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11.

According to him, the parties will discuss postwar security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts, and further steps toward peace.

Trump's special envoy Jared Kushner also stated that the US seeks not only to end the war in Ukraine but also to establish a security architecture to prevent renewed hostilities.
