US President Donald Trump said that a major deal could be reached as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Moreover, it would not only concern Ukraine but also extend beyond its borders, according to a White House broadcast.

"But I'm just telling you there's going to be an agreement. It's going to be a big agreement and it's going to involve more than Ukraine. It's going to be a very big... It's going to involve more than Ukraine and I could even say it might involve all of Europe. It's going to be a big, beautiful agreement, and everyone's going to be thrilled," Trump told reporters at the White House.

His remarks about a swift deal came in the context of his November 5 meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev. Trump did not disclose any details of the talks. He said he had not met with Ukrainian representatives (representatives of both countries attended a meeting with US First Lady Melania Trump that day).

During a question-and-answer session, journalists also pointed out that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, by continuing his war, is killing Ukrainian civilians in their apartments, on buses, and in schools. Trump was therefore asked whether he had raised this issue during the talks.

In response, the US president said that he always talks about it, but also addresses the issue from the other side, because people are dying in Russia as well.

Peace talks

Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff announced several days ago that trilateral talks between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the US, would take place in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11. According to him, the sides will discuss postwar security measures, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts, and further steps toward peace.

Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner said that the US seeks not only to end the war in Ukraine but also to establish a broader security architecture. The goal is to prevent hostilities from resuming after the war ends.

Meanwhile, on November 5, US First Lady Melania Trump hosted representatives of Ukraine and Russia after a humanitarian mission had previously been carried out in the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. During her remarks, she said that she had written a letter to the leaders of Ukraine and Russia calling for lasting peace.
