The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, changed The Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. The head of state signed such a decree today, November 7. This is the decree published on the website of the President's Office.

The new commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Lupanchuk, was approved in the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, appointed on November 3 after the dismissal of Viktor Horenko.

The latter was also removed from the Staff by decree No. 736/2023.

"Following Article 8 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Defense of Ukraine", based on the proposal of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, I decide... to introduce into the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Serhii Lupanchuk - commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; remove from the staff of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Viktor Khorenko," the decree reads.

The relevant decree enters into force from the day of its publication.

What preceded

On November 3, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the dismissal of Viktor Horenko from the post of commander of the SOF of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Colonel Serhii Lupanchuk was appointed to this position.

Meanwhile, there is no detailed information about his previous activities in open sources. As the head of state noted, Lupanchuk is an experienced officer. Zelenskyy added that the former commander of the SOF, General Viktor Khorenko, will continue to perform special tasks as part of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.

Later, information appeared in the mass media that Khorenko did not know about the dismissal plans. He was released at the request of Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
