Zelenskyy replaces Commander of Special Operations Forces
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree appointing Serhii Lupanchuk as the Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the president's decree.
"To appoint Colonel Serhii Kostiantynovych Lupanchuk as the Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," decree #728 states.
There is currently no publicly available information about Lupanchuk and his previous work in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In a previous decree, Zelenskyy removed Viktor Khorenko from this position. Khorenko was appointed as the Commander of the Special Operations Forces on July 25, 2022. On August 16, he became a part of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
The Special Operations Forces are a separate unit within the structure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, consisting of special purpose units and units for information-psychological special operations.
Special Operations Forces are staffed with specially trained professionals who undergo training in intelligence-related areas. They carry out complex, dangerous, and sometimes politically sensitive operations.
