Ukraine and Moldova should simultaneously open the first negotiation cluster on EU accession. Both countries started their European integration path together and should continue to move in sync, believes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy said that he had spoken with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Among the topics discussed were joint defense production, support for Ukrainians, and the negotiation process for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

"Donald and I agreed that the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine and Moldova should be opened simultaneously. Ukraine and Moldova started this path together and should continue on it," he emphasized.

EU accession talks

Back on May 21, President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine was ready to start negotiations on EU accession.

The only obstacle to the start of negotiations is Hungary's veto.

On July 27, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Ukraine's accession to the EU would "destroy Hungary" and drag the bloc into a war with Russia.

He also claims that the majority of Hungarians oppose Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

Moldova has no such problem. At the end of June, Romanian President Nicuşor Dan said that negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU would begin on July 4. But he later admitted that this information was incorrect.

Earlier today, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine and Moldova should start accession talks with the EU together. According to him, everything is ready for this.
