Zelenskyy to visit US factory that produces ammunition for Ukraine on Sunday
During his visit to the US, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit a facility that manufactures artillery shells supplied to Ukraine for its fight against Russian forces, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to visit the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania, where 155mm artillery shells are produced.
Accompanying Zelenskyy will be US Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Doug Bush, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Bill LaPlante, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Zelenskyy is expected to meet with plant workers and express his gratitude for their contributions to Ukraine's battlefield efforts.
The 155mm shells are used in howitzers that can hit targets at distances ranging from 24 to 32 kilometers.
The US remains Ukraine's largest donor, contributing over $56 billion of the more than $106 billion provided by NATO and partner nations to support Ukraine’s defense.
The US has invested in restarting production lines and is now producing over 40,000 rounds of 155mm shells per month, with plans to reach a monthly production of 100,000 rounds.
