Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He plans to discuss ways to achieve a just peace for Ukraine, said Zelenskyy during a press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Zelenskyy said he will meet with the Turkish leader tomorrow. During the talks, the sides will focus on "maximum opportunities" that could provide Ukraine with a path to a just peace.

"I have good relations with the President of Türkiye. We will talk. We have some positions and signals from the United States. We will see tomorrow," Zelenskyy said. He added that the discussion could be either long or brief, depending on how the sides’ positions align.

Earlier, Zelenskyy had announced his trip to Türkiye.

Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Türkiye

Ukraine and Russia have held three rounds of negotiations in Istanbul in May, June, and July 2025.

During these meetings, Ukraine confirmed its readiness for an immediate ceasefire and outlined key conditions: stopping hostilities, establishing a ceasefire along the entire front line, and halting strikes on civilian infrastructure. However, Moscow refused to agree to a truce.

Moreover, after the second round, Russia handed over to Ukraine a so-called memorandum containing a series of ultimatums, including withdrawing Ukrainian troops from four regions and ending Western assistance, halting mobilization, canceling martial law, holding elections, and stopping "sabotage activities" against Russia. Sources indicate that Moscow is still reviewing this document.

The only practical result of the negotiations has been agreements on prisoner exchanges.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Ankara is ready to act as a mediator again in talks between Kyiv and Moscow.
