Zelenskyy to dismiss Ukraine's ambassador to Germany – Source
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decided to dismiss Oleksii Makeiev from his position as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, with a replacement already identified, according to RBC-Ukraine's own source and Bild.
The first report on Makeiev's dismissal came from Bild, which referred to its sources. According to the agency, the replacement of Makeiev is part of a regular rotation of numerous Ukrainian diplomats worldwide.
It is expected that Ukraine's new ambassador to Germany will be Yevhen Korniychuk, currently serving as Ukraine's Ambassador to Israel.
"He will indeed be replaced," an RBC-Ukraine source confirmed in response to media speculation about Makeiev.
What is known about Oleksii Makeiev
Oleksii Makeiev was born on November 25, 1975.
In 1996, he began his career at Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the Department of Analysis and Planning/Political Department, focusing primarily on international security issues.
In 1997, Makeiev graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Institute of International Relations, with a certification in International Relations and Spanish interpreting.
From 1999 to 2002, he worked in the political section of Ukraine’s embassy in Switzerland.
Between 2005 and 2009, he served as an advisor at Ukraine’s embassy in Germany.
From 2014 to 2020, Makeiev held the position of Political Director at the MFA.
From 2020 to 2022, he acted as the MFA's Special Representative for Sanctions Policy.
On September 23, 2022, he was appointed Ukraine's ambassador to Germany.
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued several decrees to appoint and dismiss ambassadors, continuing a broad diplomatic rotation.
