Senator Tillis outlines Ukraine's future if Democrats secure election victory

Midterm elections to the US Congress will take place this November. If the Democrats win, it could mean the adoption of the "hellish sanctions" against Russia championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, states Senator Thom Tillis at a press briefing in Kyiv.
During the briefing, he was asked what might change for Ukraine after the upcoming congressional elections, where Democrats could secure a victory, to which he replied:
Thom Tillis said that he believed that if the Senate vote on sanctions were used as a benchmark, 86 US senators had voted for it. He added that anytime an issue got close to 80 votes, it was generally considered to have overwhelming support. He said that he believed that was a good benchmark for support in the US Senate and that it would withstand any minor changes in the Senate.
He also indicated that following a Democratic victory, a vote on the sanctions would also take place in the House of Representatives. A decisive voting result would signify that Congress is maintaining its support.
The senator concluded that he believed the American people strongly supported that, adding that members of Congress tended to represent their constituents and that when they did not, they generally got voted out.
What else is important to know
A few days ago, Bloomberg, citing its own sources, reported that the US House of Representatives was close to adopting new sanctions against Russia. The vote is expected to take place next week.
At the same time, earlier this month, information emerged that the sanctions had run into trouble in the House of Representatives. In particular, the bill was removed from the list of documents scheduled for a vote this week.
