Zelenskyy thanks Romanian President for opening F-16 training center
The opening of a pilot training center for F-16s in Romania is considered a significant practical contribution to the aviation coalition, according to the statement of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He also noted that Ukrainian pilots will undergo training there.
"Our agreements with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte are coming to life," the statement said.
He expressed gratitude to the partners for their assistance.
According to Zelenskyy, the opening of a pilot training center for F-16s in Romania, where Ukrainian pilots will undergo training, is an important practical contribution to the aviation coalition.
Training center for F-16 pilots in Romania
The creation of a regional training center for F-16 pilots in Romania was announced in July 2023.
Later reports indicated that on November 13, the European Training Center was opened at the Fetesti military airbase in Romania.
However, according to the spokesperson of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yurii Ihnat, Ukrainian pilots have not yet started training on the F-16 in Romania. The center where the training is supposed to take place is still under construction.
