Zelenskyy thanks Macron for his 'clear vision': Peace cannot mean Ukraine's capitulation

Russia's war against Ukraine must not succeed the aggressor and must not signify the capitulation of the attacked state. A just peace must be supported by, among other things, long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, states President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his Twitter account (X).
The head of state responded to the remarks made by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during his national address on March 5. In his speech, the French leader touched on the Russia-Ukraine war and rejected a fragile ceasefire for Ukraine.
"I am grateful to Emmanuel Macron for his clear vision and our joint efforts to achieve peace. Peace must be real, not just a word - it cannot mean Ukraine’s capitulation or collapse," Zelenskyy wrote.
The Ukrainian president also emphasized that such peace must be just, reliable, and lasting.
According to Zelenskyy, this can only be achieved with strong and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe, and the entire world.
The Ukrainian president also expressed gratitude to all partner countries for their support and added that joint work on steps toward peace would begin soon.
"We deeply appreciate the leadership and efforts of all those supporting Ukraine and strengthening Europe’s defense capabilities. Looking forward to working jointly on the steps toward peace in the upcoming days," Zelenskyy's post reads.
What did Macron say about peace/ceasefire in Ukraine
Earlier, it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron opposed a too-fragile ceasefire in Ukraine. He emphasized that the path to peace cannot go through abandoning support for Ukraine.
The French leader is convinced that if a country can invade its neighbor in Europe and remain unpunished, no one can be confident in their security.
He also stated that Russia poses a threat not only to Ukrainians but to all of Europe, with Russian President Vladimir Putin violating our borders to eliminate opponents and manipulate elections.
Additionally, Macron revealed that France has planned a meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of countries willing to send their contingents to Ukraine. It will take place next week.
On the evening of March 5, the Reuters news agency reported that European leaders are striving to create a peace plan for Ukraine within a few days.
