Zelenskyy: Talks with Putin don’t strengthen Ukraine
Sanctions and diplomatic isolation are weakening Russian President Vladimir Putin. Talks between other world leaders and Putin do not strengthen Ukraine, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Kyiv.
He noted that he was aware of Scholz's intention to call Putin and had shared his opinion on the matter.
"After one conversation, there is a second, third, and fifth conversation, because sometimes people want to take the lead. I think that this may be followed by a wave of recognition of Putin. I think this does not strengthen Ukraine. That’s my opinion. But, as I said, we have much more in common with Germany than differences," Zelenskyy remarked.
Talks between Scholz and Putin
Earlier, on November 15, Scholz spoke with the Kremlin leader for the first time in two years. During the conversation, Scholz condemned Russia’s actions in its war against Ukraine and urged Putin to withdraw troops. The possibility of negotiations with Kyiv was also discussed.
Afterward, Scholz stated that Putin's position on the war remained unchanged. However, Scholz emphasized that he considered the dialogue necessary, particularly in light of the upcoming G20 summit.
Today, Scholz arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. It's his second visit since the full-scale Russian invasion began. During the trip, he plans to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine.
