Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s agreement to resume peace negotiations with Ukraine does not yet mean that they will take place, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy emphasized that they should wait and see whether it would happen and remain pragmatic. He said that they should discuss the results after the relevant meeting rather than beforehand, adding that it remained to be seen what would happen, whether there would be any escalation in the Middle East, and whether the meeting would take place in Abu Dhabi or Europe.
According to the head of state, he currently does not know what exactly influenced Putin’s sharp change in position regarding peace negotiations with Ukraine. Nevertheless, there are certain assumptions.
Zelenskyy stated that he could not say what had influenced it and suggested that there might be some agreements between America and Russia that he was unaware of.
Against the backdrop of recent events, he also warned the US authorities against further lifting sanctions against Russia.
"I would not want us to approach a meeting of the three leaders – Ukraine, the United States, and Russia – having lifted all sanctions on the Russian Federation. This is an important point. Sanctions were imposed for aggression, not for an opportunity to have a chat," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Recently, the Kremlin stated that the end of the war in Ukraine was approaching.
Furthermore, the Kremlin named a possible location for negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine.
