Zelenskyy sets task on weapon production: Expert explains key factor for implementation
Ukraine is focusing on the production of missiles and drones for defense purposes. The key factor now is the government's ability to provide funding for these tasks, Anatolii Khrapchynskyi, an aviation expert and Deputy Director General of an electronic warfare company, told RBC-Ukraine.
He commented on the task of Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy to produce missiles and drones.
He emphasizes that the key factor is the state's ability to purchase the required amount of equipment.
“It's needless to say how much companies have to produce during the year, it is necessary to say how much the state is able to purchase. This is a strong argument to create a need that will be met by Ukrainian producers,” Khrapchynskyi said.
According to him, the current state of the Ukrainian defense industry can meet up to 90% of the needs for drones and electronic warfare equipment.
“Manufacturers can make even more, if we are talking about the drones that are already in use within the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” the expert added.
Khrapchynskyi called for focusing on the state's financial capabilities to fulfill these tasks, noting that this would stimulate the development of the Ukrainian defense industry.
Weapons production in Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed to produce 30,000 long-range drones. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says that Ukrainian enterprises plan to produce about 3,000 missiles.
Back in July 2024, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine planned to increase the production of long-range UAVs.
In mid-December 2024, Vadym Sukharevskyi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine, said that a laser system project was being developed in Ukraine.
