The outcome of the full-scale war with Russia will be decided in the skies. Ukraine is proving to be competitive in the air, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Financial Times.
"And frankly, in that contest, it matters far less whose territory is larger. We have moved into the air domain. And in the air, we are already competitive," Zelenskyy said.
However, Zelenskyy noted that missile defense remains Ukraine's primary weakness. He linked this vulnerability to Kyiv’s decision in the 1990s to surrender its nuclear arsenal in exchange for security guarantees from both the West and Russia.
"Without nuclear weapons, you are no longer part of the club that others fear attacking. Instead, you become part of the club that can be attacked," the President stated.
During a recent meeting with Ukrainian troops, Zelenskyy declared that Ukraine has seized the initiative from Russia and is shifting the war onto Russian territory. According to him, the world expects only one thing: that Ukraine "will defeat this Russian bastard."
In the same address, the President highlighted that Russia has lost control over the Black Sea. He pointed out that the liberation of Zmiinyi (Snake) Island and successful Ukrainian operations in Crimea prove that neither the Black Sea nor the Sea of Azov is safe for Russian forces anymore.
Also, during the meeting with service members, a chart of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was seen in one of the frames, showing how many Russian vessels have been destroyed by Ukraine.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in June, Zelenskyy said that more than half of Russians wanted the war to end. According to him, this was because Russians see that Russia has failed to achieve victory on the battlefield.
