Zelenskyy says Trump knows freezing the war is dangerous
Newly elected US President Donald Trump understands that Ukraine does not intend to surrender or freeze the war. At the same time, he wants to act quickly to resolve the conflict in the country, according to Le Parisien, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During an online discussion with readers of Le Parisien, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the outcome of his talks with Donald Trump in Paris.
“Trump knows about my desire not to rush to Ukraine's detriment. The country has been fighting for its sovereignty for a long time. No matter how many presidents or prime ministers have wanted to announce an end to the war, we are not going to simply surrender and abandon our independence. The danger lies in saying: we will freeze the war and negotiate with the Russians,” the president said.
Zelenskyy added that Trump wants to resolve the war quickly. However, he does not yet have access to all the necessary information.
"Right now, he is not in the White House and cannot access all the information — intelligence, the Department of Defense, certain diplomatic channels, and so on. When he is there, we will be able to speak the same language, with the same level of information," the Ukrainian president explained.
Zelenskyy also stressed the importance of ensuring that changes in the United States, with Trump's arrival at the White House, benefit Ukraine. He noted that Ukrainian teams are already working with Trump’s team.
"We would like to see stronger US support for Ukraine. Our team is already working with President Trump’s team. Building relations with the new administration will be our priority. The United States has been and remains our leading donor in this war. At the same time, I want to emphasize that both Europe and the United States are important for Ukraine. We do not place anyone above the others," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president added that America can influence Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced today that efforts to stop Russia's war against Ukraine will intensify in January 2025. According to Zelenskyy, this will happen after Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Keith Kellogg, who is set to join Trump’s team and is already serving as a de facto special envoy for Ukraine, will visit Kyiv. His trip is scheduled for early January next year.
