Zelenskyy's Office reveals objectives of Ukrainian operation in Kursk region
In the border regions of Russia, including the Kursk region, Ukrainians are exclusively dealing with security-related issues. Ukraine is not interested in occupying these territories, stated Mykhailo Podolyak, an Advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in X.
Podolyak noted that Ukraine is instead interested in the actual destruction of many Russian military facilities, pushing the remnants of Russian troops behind lines that allow for artillery and ballistic missile strikes on Ukrainian territory.
The Advisor to the head of the Presidential Office also mentioned the formation of a security belt around Ukraine's borders and the destruction of military logistics and infrastructure, including storage bases, training centers, and places where equipment is concentrated.
Podolyak emphasized that Ukraine and Russia are waging different wars that have clear legal definitions.
"While Russia deliberately attacked Ukraine to kill civilians and occupy its territory, which is an unconditional war crime, Ukraine is waging an exclusively defensive war, including on the aggressor's territory to ensure the protection of its own population, which is its unconditional right," he noted.
Operation in the Kursk region
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have been conducting an operation in the border areas of the Kursk region for over a week now. According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrainian forces have advanced 40 square kilometers and taken control of 74 settlements in the Kursk region.
It is worth noting that allied countries, commenting on the Ukrainian army's breakthrough into the Kursk region, have supported these actions, calling it Ukraine's right to defend itself against Russian aggression.
In particular, it has been reported today that Ukrainian troops are using British tanks during the breach.
The Ukrainian military operation continues. Today, it was reported that the Security Service of Ukraine fighters managed to capture 102 Russian soldiers, including Kadyrov’s fighters from the Akhmat unit.
Ukrainians continue to capture new settlements, leading to widespread panic among Russia's military and political leadership. On the night of August 10, a counterterrorism operation regime was introduced in three Russian regions.
These regions include Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod, which are located near the border with Ukraine.
As for the Belgorod region, today, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations declared a federal-level state of emergency.
