Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico likely sent a signal to Moscow and Russian leader Vladimir Putin that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready for a leaders’ meeting aimed at ending the war, according to presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn.

Lytvyn spoke about a conversation between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Robert Fico, during which the Slovak prime minister asked about Ukraine’s position.

“The president told him that we seek an end to the war, that worthy solutions are needed for this, and that Ukraine is ready to meet at the leadership level in a meaningful format so that such decisions can be achieved. Most likely, this is the context in which Fico will communicate,” Lytvyn said.

What preceded this

Earlier, Slovak Foreign Ministry Secretary Rastislav Chovanec said that the country’s prime minister would deliver a message from Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow.

According to him, Fico may also receive valuable information from the Kremlin leader about Putin's views on efforts to end the war. Chovanec noted that communication with all sides of the conflict is necessary under the current circumstances.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said today that the Russian leader is ready for dialogue “with everyone, including the EU.” At the same time, he noted that Russia does not plan to independently propose restoring ties.

According to media reports, Vladimir Putin’s administration has been working since February on a so-called “image of victory” to justify a future peace agreement with Ukraine.
