Zelenskyy's Office responds to US appeal to lower mobilization age
Reuters reported yesterday that the US called on Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18. However, this proposal lacks justification, as the country is not receiving the promised weapons from its partners on time, according to the post on X of Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian president's communications advisor.
“It doesn't make sense to see calls for Ukraine to lower the mobilization age, presumably in order to draft more people when we can see that previously announced equipment is not arriving on time,” he wrote.
Lytvyn emphasized that these delays leave Ukraine without sufficient weapons to equip already mobilized soldiers.
In response to his post, Volodymyr Zelenskyy's communications adviser also noted that Ukraine’s partners have full access to the data and can compare their commitments with actual deliveries.
“Ukraine cannot be expected to compensate for delays in logistics or hesitation in support with the youth of our men on the frontline,” he concluded.
What preceded
On Wednesday, November 27, Reuters reported that an unnamed senior official from the US presidential administration suggested the need to lower Ukraine's mobilization age to 18.
The official claimed that Ukraine is not mobilizing or training enough soldiers to sustain its war effort against Russia. In light of this, the official argued for the necessity of bolstering the ranks of its armed forces.
“Mobilization and more manpower could make a significant difference at this time as we look at the battlefield today,” the official stated, highlighting Russia’s advances on the frontlines.
