In several regions of Ukraine, the situation remains difficult following Russian strikes on critical infrastructure. Energy workers and repair crews are working around the clock to restore electricity, heating, and water supply, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Zelenskyy, restoring normal life after constant Russian attacks is a monumental but extremely important task. He expressed gratitude to all specialists involved in addressing the aftermath of the strikes.
He also stated that just last week, Russia deployed nearly 1,100 strike drones, over 890 guided aerial bombs, and more than 50 missiles of various types, including ballistic and cruise missiles, against Ukraine.
The strikes, he noted, targeted sites with no military significance, including energy infrastructure and residential buildings.
"They deliberately waited for freezing weather to make things worse for our people. This is a deliberate, cynical Russian terror targeting civilians. I thank our mobile strike groups, who defend Ukraine every night and every day from these attacks, as well as all other troops in our air defense units and electronic warfare units," the president said.
Zelenskyy also emphasized the importance of domestic resilience, strengthening the country’s defense, and stable support from international partners, including through coordinated diplomacy aimed at achieving peace.
Attacks on Ukraine
On the night of January 10, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine, using an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 121 strike drones from multiple directions. Air defense forces shot down 94 drones. Kryvyi Rih was hit, with infrastructure damage and two people wounded.
As a result of the strikes, parts of the Saksahanskyi and Pokrovskyi districts lost power. Emergency crews worked throughout the night and continued restoration efforts during the day.
On the evening of January 10, Lozova in Kharkiv region suffered a drone attack: residential buildings and critical infrastructure were damaged, and one man was wounded. Explosions were also reported in Kharkiv, and in Odesa region Russian forces struck port infrastructure, causing fires.
Hundreds of thousands of consumers in multiple regions were left without electricity due to attacks on energy facilities. The most critical situations were recorded in Dnipropetrovsk region, Kyiv region, and Kyiv itself. In Dnipropetrovsk alone, more than 130,000 customers lost power, and hospitals switched to backup generators.
On the morning of January 11, Russia again attacked Ukraine, launching 154 strike drones. Most were shot down by air defense, but 22 drones hit 18 locations, and debris fell in two districts.
On the night of January 9, Russia struck Lviv region with a medium-range ballistic missile. Later, the use of the Russian Oreshnik missile was confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
