Another round of peace talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia is being postponed due to the war in Iran. Meanwhile, Kyiv is awaiting good news regarding a prisoner exchange with the aggressor state, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Suspilne.
The President of Ukraine noted that earlier today, he had a conversation with National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov regarding his communication with representatives of the United States. According to the president, the dialogue with the US continues on a daily basis.
"Due to the situation surrounding Iran, there are currently no necessary signals for a trilateral meeting. But as soon as the security situation and the overall political context allow for the continuation of that trilateral diplomatic work, it will take place. Ukraine is ready for this," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement.
In addition, he thanked representatives of the intelligence services, the Office of the President, and all other agencies involved for their efforts toward further prisoner exchanges.
“We are working to bring all our people home from Russian captivity. We hope for good news,” the president emphasized.
Suspilne, citing a source in the Ukrainian delegation, reported today, March 4, that the date and location of the next round of talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States have not yet been determined.
"There is currently no date or location for the next round of trilateral talks," the source said.
Ukraine, US, and Russia talks
Ukraine, the US, and the aggressor state were planning a new round of peace talks at the beginning of March. The exact date of the meeting is still unknown, but it is expected to take place between March 5 and 8.
The meeting was planned to be held in Abu Dhabi. On Monday, March 2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the talks had not been postponed, even amid the US and Israeli operation against Iran.
Yesterday, March 3, the Ukrainian president suggested that the meeting in Abu Dhabi might not happen. According to him, the next round of talks could take place within a few days in Europe, with possible locations including Switzerland, Türkiye, Austria, or the Vatican.
