Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent letters to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, and the Russian President over the course of a month. The head of state noted that he received the result that was needed, Zelenskyy said this during a press conference with the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The President stressed that he had different objectives. In particular, when writing the letter to the United States, he aimed to do everything possible to shift Washington’s focus "at least a little" from the Middle East toward the situation in Ukraine.

"I can't share with you all the details, but I believe me, my nation needed too much anti-ballistic missiles. And I got the result, and I will not share with you the details of this result," Zelenskyy said.

He also noted that he had the goal of sending a letter to the Russian leader, adding that he "received the result that was needed."

On May 27, Zelenskyy addressed Trump and the US Congress in a letter due to a severe shortage of air defense systems amid intensified Russian strikes. In the address, the head of state warned about the danger to civilians caused by a lack of means to intercept ballistic missiles.

Later, Zelenskyy explained the reasons for such a step, saying the situation required an immediate response and that any delay was unacceptable, especially ahead of the winter period.

In addition, on June 4, Zelenskyy published an open letter to the Russian President. In it, the Ukrainian president said Kyiv was ready to end the war through direct negotiations.

In response, Putin criticized Zelenskyy’s address, claiming there were allegedly "elements of rudeness" in the letter. At the same time, he rejected the proposal for personal talks, saying he "saw no point" in such a meeting.
