Ukraine could "quietly" receive Patriot missiles from Middle Eastern countries in exchange for supplying its interceptor drones, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a briefing.

"We would like to 'quietly' receive PAC-3 missiles from the countries (of the Middle East – ed.) and transfer interceptor drones to them," he said.

Zelenskyy clarified that over three days, Middle Eastern countries launched 800 PAC-3 missiles. Ukraine has not had that many throughout the entire war with Russia.

Why PAC-3 missiles are important

PAC-3 (Patriot Advanced Capability-3) missiles for the Patriot system are highly effective next-generation interceptors designed specifically to destroy tactical ballistic missiles and other aerial threats.

The PAC-3 uses hit-to-kill technology, which destroys its target through direct impact and massive kinetic energy rather than using an explosive warhead.

This enables reliable neutralization of ballistic missile warheads while minimizing the risk of ground collateral damage from debris.

During Russia’s massive winter missile strikes on Ukraine, there were instances when Ukrainian Patriot systems ran out of missiles.

The issue of Patriot missile supplies has become pressing again due to the US and Israeli operation against Iran, as such air defense systems are being heavily used in the Middle East to intercept Iranian ballistic missiles.
