Zelenskyy on Trump's plan to end war: Quick means losses for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Donald Trump’s plan to end the war, which the latter has repeatedly promised to accomplish within 24 hours, citing Zelenskyy’s remarks during a press conference.
Zelenskyy said that he has indeed had good conversations with Trump, who recently won the election. However, he emphasized that these discussions must be more specific, and both sides need to prepare for this.
"Regarding the quick end to the war – today, I believe Trump genuinely wants a swift resolution. Wanting it doesn’t mean it will happen. I’m not accusing anyone here. I’m simply saying that we are where we are. We’re at war with the Russians, the toughest adversary of this century," the president explained.
At the same time, the Ukrainian leader stressed that he wants a just end to the war.
"I am convinced that a quick end to the war means losses. I think that if it’s very quick – I don’t know the idea, we haven’t discussed it with Trump – I think he’ll be preparing with his team, shaping his views; all this is ahead of us. All I understand now is that he truly wants an end. We want a just end because this whole war is a horror and a tragedy. But if it’s just fast, that means losses for Ukraine," he concluded.
Yesterday, November 7, RBC-Ukraine asked a political analyst when they think Trump would begin stopping the war in Ukraine and whether he would call Putin.
Trump has repeatedly said that if elected president, he could stop Russia’s war against Ukraine, even emphasizing he could do it within 24 hours, perhaps even with a phone call.
Earlier, Zelenskyy had already responded to Trump’s statement about ending the war "within 24 hours."
