Zelenskyy on strikes deep into Russia: After Blinken and Lemmy's visit, there should be no unanswered questions
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of Ukraine receiving weapons with sufficient long-range capabilities. He made this statement after a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who visited Kyiv, according to the president's speech at the Yalta European Strategy meeting.
“I hope that after our conversation there can no longer be any unanswered questions about why Ukraine needs sufficient long-range capacity. I want to emphasize: sufficient. Sufficient not just to say that there is a solution. We need sufficient range to change the war's course and make Russia seek peace,” he said.
Zelenskyy expressed hope for effective support from international partners.
Permission to strike deep into Russia
Ukraine is receiving long-range missiles from the UK, the US, and France, but the use of these weapons for strikes on Russian territory remains restricted.
White House Press Secretary John Kirby stated that the US continues to hold closed-door negotiations with Ukraine on this issue.
A meeting between US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected soon, where they will discuss the possibility of allowing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry out strikes on Russian territory.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted that international law permits the use of Western weapons for attacks on Russian territory, but the decision on this matter should be made by the countries supplying the weapons.
